Ramsammy, Dos Ramos shine

ETOBICOKE: Trinidad and Tobago-born jockeys Emile Ramsammy and Richard Dos Ramos both registered stakes wins in Canadian horse racing at Woodbine on Sunday afternoon.  Ramsammy scored aboard the hot favourite One for Rose in the Algoma Stakes, while Dos Ramos captured the Elgin Stakes. But leading jockey Todd Kabel continued his irrepressible form this season with five victories including a whopping three stakes triumphs. In the CAN $125,000 Algoma, One for Rose blew by front-running Winning Chance in the deep stretch en route to a two and a quarter-length victory. One for Rose ran a mile and a sixteenth in 1:43.54 under Ramsammy for trainer Sid Attard.

“She stumbled at the gate and I thought that might have cost me somewhat, (but) this filly is all heart. She really enjoys being a racehorse,” Ramsammy said. Sent off as the 3-5 favourite, One for Rose won handily and Winning Chance, with Kabel up, held on for second. Dos Ramos piloted Just in Case Jimmy (4-1) to a length and three-quarter triumph over 3-2 favourite Cool N Collective (Kabel) in the CAN$134,125 Elgin Stakes. Just in Case Jimmy won the mile and sixteenth event in 1:44.56 for Dos Ramos’ second win on the 11-race card. He had also scored with the favourite Archer’s Dream (6-5) in the first race.

Barbadian Patrick Husbands had one winner on the card, scoring with the 6-5 favourite Crystal Harmony in the sixth race by one and a half lengths.
