Mad rush for Sando maxi

THE EDITOR: Please permit me a space in your newspaper to express my experience of bad customer service in PTSC’s maxi service. I’m a student attending TTHTI in Chaguaramas. I live at Claxton Bay. Every afternoon I travel with a San Fernando maxi from the bus station to the area where I live. One Friday afternoon I was waiting for a maxi after school. There wasn’t any in my section. I had to wait for about five minutes until a maxi came. The bus station is usually crowded and whenever a maxi arrives into the section there is usually a big rush. Although I have never gotten hurt, I have heard that people had their feet mashed, stabbed by someone’s elbow or even squeezed. That Friday afternoon I was lucky to see two maxis coming into the section as the crowd was heading for the first maxi I easily slipped into the second. It did not take long before the crowd realised that there was a second maxi.

I have never seen such a rush like that afternoon. Somehow someone got a window open and just like that all you could see were people jumping in. I never knew people were that flexible. But what had me concerned was the driver, because all I saw him doing was sitting calmly and not caring if his passengers were okay. After the maxi was filled, can you guess what the passengers did? Well I’ll tell you, they laughed as if it was some big adventure. But by the end of the day, one can’t help but wonder if there weren’t two maxis. All that I am asking is that someone in the bus station arrange a maxi for students because there are other students taking the maxi and don’t get on board until the crowd starts to settle down which is about six o’clock. And now as schools have reopened it would be even harder to get transportation.
