Newsday sponsors Republic Day run/ride
NEWSDAY, the People’s Paper, will once again be the official sponsor of the Republic Day Cycle Challenge at the King George V Park, St Clair on Republic Day (September 24). The second annual event will start at 1 pm with the feature race due to begin at 4 pm. But, before the cyclists face the starter’s flag, a five-kilometre fun run will be contested from 3 pm, along St Clair Avenue, into Boissierre Village, Long Circular Road, onto Tragarete Road and ending at the King George V Park.
Registration forms for the 5k are available at all Kenny’s Sports Stores at the cost of $25 per person and $200 for teams of ten runners. All proceeds from the day’s events will go towards the Newsday’s Save the Street Children Fund which (launched in April 1999) deals with raising funds for institutions responsible for housing street children. Among the homes associated with the Fund are Marian House, Credo Foundation, Vision of Hope, Ferdean’s Place and the Dar-ul-Amman.
