St Augustine, Arima enjoy more success in East

THE “Green Machine” St Augustine and the “Dial Dynamos” Arima both recorded comfortable victories in the East Zone of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) yesterday. St Augustine got a double from Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 playmaker Shastri Spencer, and one each from national Under-20 midfielder Devon Maxwell and Sherlon Sorillo as they thrashed Barataria 4-0 at the St Augustine Ground. Reigning zonal winners Arima cruised past debutants Valencia 4-1 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima while Hillview recorded their first win of the season —  2-0 over St George’s, with goals on either half by Stefan George and Leonardo Reyes.

In the other East Zone encounter, Troy Linsey converted a pair of penalties as San Juan earned a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over hosts El Dorado. Keston Henry had earlier given the “Blue Thunder” the lead with a 19th minute freekick. While matches in the East Zone were contested as scheduled, the Tobago Zone was unable to start yesterday as the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet was unavailable for the doubleheader —  Bishop’s versus Roxborough and Scarborough against defending champs Signal Hill. North and South Zone matches will be staged today from 4 pm.
