Mucurapo stay unbeaten in North Zone
MUCURAPO Senior maintained their unbeaten streak in the North Zone of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) yesterday when they recorded a narrow 3-2 triumph over Morvant/Laventille at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. Richard Roy, Sherwin Jack and Irving Rullow were the marksmen for Mucurapo, who remain the only team with a 100-percent record in the Zone. QRC earned their second successive victory, by a 2-0 margin over Fatima at the Fatima Ground while 2003 zonal champs St Anthony’s rolled past Tranquility 7-0 at the St Anthony’s Ground. The fans at the CIC Ground walked away a disappointed bunch as the hosts St Mary’s and Malick battled to a goalless stalemate.
Moruga climbed to the top of the standings in the South Zone with a 1-0 victory over Vessigny, with Samuel Brereton the goal-getter for the hosts. Mayaro rebounded from their 8-1 thrashing by Naparima on Monday with a 2-1 win over St Benedict’s at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 forward Carlon Hughes and Rion Noel found the back of the net for Mayaro while Robert O’Brien struck for the lads from La Romain. Naps struggled against their arch-rivals Princes Town and could only muster a 0-0 draw at Princes Town while Pleasantville, spurred on by their home crowd and surroundings, edged Fyzabad 1-0. East Zone action will hold centre stage today with four matches from 4 pm.
