Grenadian refugee held in TT

Around 4 pm yesterday, officers of the St James Police Station observed a man walking around acting strangely. They questioned him and heard a Grenadian accent. He was further questioned and gave his name as Kelvin Mills, 42. He admitted he had arrived on local shores Monday night. He revealed that he was a stowaway from Grenada. Mills said when Prime Minister Patrick Manning visited hurricane ravaged Grenada recently, he (Manning) told citizens of the neighbouring Caribbean country that should they have problems they could come to Trinidad. Mills took up the offer. He said he boarded a boat in Grenada, reached Port-of-Spain and then went to St James. It was there he was held by police.  Mills was turned over to Immigration who issued a detention document. He is now awaiting deportation to Grenada. He said he had lost his home and belongings during Hurricane Ivan.
