Jan 92 in rain-hit Angostura clash

OPENER Imran Jan struck 92 runs in a rain affected Angostura Classic match at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) yesterday. Jan playing for the XS team hit  the top score in his team’s innings of 207 for three wickets off their 50 overs against White Oak XI. The left hander stroked seven fours and two sixes before he perished eight runs short of his century, to the bowling of Kenton Thompson after batting for 175 minutes. He faced 130 balls. Giving him good support were skipper Gregory Mahabir 39, young opener William Perkins 39 and Earnil Ryan 21 not out. Rain then drenched the ground during the lunch break at 12.45pm and the White Oak XI were unable to mount a reply. The second game of the three-match series will now be played at the same venue on Saturday with the third and final match on Sunday. 

Senior Trinidad and Tobago players who are on the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) Self Enhancement programme at the Trinidad Hilton, will be available to play in the second and third matches. WIPA president Dinanath Ramnarine agreed to release the players from the final day of the seminar so that they can play the game. Chairman of the senior national selection panel Dudnath Ramkessoon said the national team would be selected at the conclusion of third game on Sunday. The Trinidad and Tobago team will leave for Guyana on October 5 where they will play in the regional limited overs tournament starting on October 10.

Trinidad and Tobago last tasted success in the limited overs series in 1997 when they won the Shell/Sandals Trophy.
