Sherwin Ganga hits century in Angostura match

TRINIDAD and tobago left-handed batsman Sherwin Ganga struck a masterly 102 yesterday in the rain affected second match of the Angostura sponsored series at the National Cricket Centre (NCC), Balmain Couva. Ganga, playing for the White Oak XI struck 102 to pace his team to 201 all out in 49.3 of their allotted 50 overs against the XS team led by his brother Daren.

Lending good support was Ganga’s PowerGen teammate Samuel Badree with 31. The best bowler for the XS team was yet another PowerGen player —  Amit Jaggernauth. The off-spinner claimed two wickets for 32 of 10 probing overs. The XS team were not given a chance to reply as rain came down during the interval just as what happened on Thursday to force an early end to the match. The umpires were hoping for a reduced match but at 3.30 pm they gave up hope called it a day. Today the teams will return to the field hoping to get a result and win the Angostura Cup which  is up for grabs. Again the weather forecast today is not promising and the downpour yesterday left the NCC ground soaked. The TT team is expected to be chosen early this week after the conclusion of the matches. The national squad will depart for Guyana for the first round of the regional series on October 5 and go into action against Barbados on October 8.

ANGOSTURA SCORE
White Oak XI 201 all out (49.3overs)(Sherwin Ganga 102, Samuel Badree 31) vs
XS XI — No result.
