CFC, Police cruise in netball Super Cup
CARIBBEAN Facilities Corp (CFC) completely outclassed Zenith, as action continued in the NASAMA Enterprises-promoted Netball Super Cup Championships at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo. They whipped the overmatched Zenith 73-31 in a lopsided Group One match on Sunday, which was over before it really got started. CFC led 20-8 at the end of the opening quarter, and stretched their advantage to 37-16 by the half-time whistle. At the end of the third period the scoreline read 55-25. And from this early stage, it appears three teams — Police, Defence Force and Soul City — are the major players in the race for the $10,000 winner’s prize money. National skipper and goal-shoot Janelle Barker scored 33 of 41 attempts, Under-21 star Raquel Russell had 16 of 23 and Terrence Mayers registered 24 of 38 for CFC. Themesa Neckles scored 27 of 35 attempts and Alana Curden had four of eight for Zenith.
Caribbean club champions Police trounced Malta Carib Senators 53-25 in the Group Two match, with goal-shoot Floyd Lashley, towering over the defenders scoring 39 goals from 50 attempts. Ex-national Donna Elise Charles added nine of 14 and Euphemia Huggins got five of 11 for Police. Ayanna Moore, forced to shoot from almost the edge of the circle in all matches because of the tall goal-keeper Kwesi George, scored 22 of 35 attempts, Vaughn Isaac sank one of two and Robert Juman shot two of four for Senators. The outcome was never in any doubt as Senators made oodles of mistakes in the centre third, with passes either being thrown out of court or direct to an opponent. Police led 16-5; 35-9; 61-27 at the quarter stages, despite emptying their bench in the final two periods.
