32 more murders
TT recorded its 198th murder yesterday morning with the murder of a 20-year-old Laventille man, 32 more for the same period than last year. The most recent being the body of Brent Ellis alias Bully who was found dead with a single gunshot wound to his head. According to reports around 12.20 am yesterday residents of Second Street, East Dry River heard a single gunshot and when they investigated, found the body of a man of African descent with a single bullet wound to his head lying in a pool of blood. The police were contacted and they in turn contacted the DMO, Dr Mercer, who pronounced the man dead and ordered his removal to the Port-of-Spain mortuary. The body was later identified as that of Ellis by his girlfriend, after which it was transferred to the Forensic Science Centre today.
Police sources confirmed that Ellis had a long track record of possession of arms, ammunition, drugs and other crimes all of which he committed in the Carenage area where he lives. Just hours before two other murders that of Justin Cooper in Rio Claro and KathyAnn Glasgow in Toco were recorded. When contacted, a senior officer confirmed that they have noted the increase, and yesterday had a meeting with senior heads in various divisions and will today present their findings and suggestions to the executive of the police service. “In the meanwhile we continue to do what we have to do,” added the concerned senior cop. Cpl Mercer of the Besson Street Police Station is continuing inquiries.
