TT women embarrass St Lucia
The result meant they were 14-1 winners on aggregate, sailing into the semi-final phase of the competition which starts tomorrow.
Midfielder Ahkeela Mollon led the onslaught with a beaver-trick, scoring in the 12th, 32nd, 81st and 83rd minutes. Defender Lauryn Hutchinson added a double in the 23rd and 26th minutes, with Naomie Guerra netting in the 65th and Sharain Cummings in the 87th to finish of the St Lucians who got a lone goal in the 58th minute through a penalty by Ellaisa Marquis.
TT coach Anthony Creece described the win as well orchestrated, saying that the hosts were intent on sealing the deal on the night.
“We came out and won the game handsomely and the team was determined to do that,” Creece said, in an interview on the TT FA (Trinidad and Tobago Football Association) website.
“They played very good as a unit and the group is growing more and more everytime they are together. It was more pleasing to see the progress and the way in which we took control of the game because we know the next opponent, Jamaica, will be a much different level and we want to be in good shape for that semi-final match,” Creece added.
TT face Jamaica in the second semi-final tomorrow from 7.30 pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium.
The winner will meet the winner of the other encounter between Puerto Rico and Guyana which kicks off at 5 pm, in the final on Friday.
The losing semi-finalists will square off in a third place playoff with the top three finishers advancing to the CONCACAF Finals next February in the United States.
