Ball now in Kalifa’s court

Dreadlocked student Kalifa Logan is expected to begin classes this week. In a release yesterday, the Ministry of Education stated that Logan’s mother, Lynette Marshall, had been “advised to confirm” acceptance of the “school placement arrangements” with the Director of School Supervision by tomorrow. “Immediately following this, Kalifa would be required to register and begin her secondary school education,” the Ministry stated. The arrangements were agreed upon during a 90-minute meeting between the Director of School Supervision, the Director of Student Support Services and the child’s family at their La Horquetta home Friday. The Ministry also noted “all necessary arrangements” had been made for Logan to recieve counselling together with other forms of Student Support Services. “A guidance officer will be assigned to work with Kalifa with respect to adjustments to secondary school and the trauma she has faced,” the Ministry stated. The Minstry also refuted media reports that Education officials were still “undecided as to where the youngster will be placed.”
