Tobago n-ballers win in Super Cup

TOBAGONIAN netballers CB (Canaan/Bon Accord) United staged a successful final quarter rally to whip Malta Carib Senators 38-36 as action in the $30,000 NASAMA Enterprises Netball Super Cup Champion-ships continued at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex. Senators led 11-7 at the end of the opening quarter of Saturday’s Group 2 game, and were still ahead at the half-time break 19-17. The Senators team stretched their lead to 29-24 at the end of the third period, but steady and accurate shooting by Cliff Nicholson who slotted in 26 goals from 29 attempts, swept the Tobagonians to their first victory in only their second game.


Leesel Thomas scored seven of 15 attempts and Wendy Wallace five of nine for the winners, while Ayana Moore got 15 of 28 attempts, Shawn Solomon 15 of 22 and Robert Juman six of nine for Senators. Soul City, narrowly beaten by Defence Force in their opening game, outclassed Zenith 48-17 in Group 1 action, leading the way 11-3; 21-6; 38-12 at the quarter breaks. Ashley “Dr Dunk” Bynoe scored 26 opf 31 attempts, Debra Beckles one of three, Patrice Goring seven of 13 and Cadman Worrell 14 of 16 for the winning team. And Themesa neckles netted eight of 14 and Melissa Adams nine of 18 for Zenith who were losing for the second time in as many games.
