Great win by Windies

THE EDITOR: What a victory! Congratulations to Brian Lara and his men, the coach, the manager, the technical team and all the others involved for a job well done. It has certainly given the team that injection of enthusiasm and confidence that seemed to be lacking over the past few years. Our team performed excellently. Knowing our people, I was wondering where the negative criticism would come from and up comes Umbala with the arrant nonsense that the euphoric celebrations of the team members was vulgar and highlighted why West Indian cricket is in disarray. This is a non issue. When Shaun Pollock got Lara out during their last encounter, he threw himself on the ground “kick up and bawl” and his team mates joined him. No problem. I guess cricket is a gentleman’s game.

The predators of West Indian cricket, Tony Cozier, Michael Holding, Colin Croft and our home grown upstart Andre Errol Baptiste must be feverishly looking for something degrading and downright nasty to say about Brian Lara in particular and the team in general. Their poison pens over the years have helped to demoralise the team, especially the younger players who knew nothing about winning. As for the English. Let them step down from that ladder of over confidence and conceit and recognise that they have only recently started to win after twenty to thirty years. The Windies rebuilding process is still ongoing. Let us give the boys all our support during this period so that their confidence and focus could be regained. Away with the detractors.
