Football Federation to investigate goal spree

THE Disciplinary Committee of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) will hold an emergency meeting today to investigate Friday’s Super League encounter between WASA Clean and White and L Sporto Crab Connection, which saw WASA prevailing by a 15-13 margin. According to Administrative Assistant at All Sport Richard Piper: “This brings the league into disrepute and there is a belief that there is some sort of collusion between the two teams to ensure that Marlon Warner emerges as the topscorer of the League.” Warner, the “Most Valuable Player” of the inaugural 2003 season, netted ten goals in the match at WASA Ground, St Joseph. Anthony Harford, Marketing Director of All Sport, noted in a media release that his company was left with little choice but to refer the matter to the TTFF.

“All Sport has been receiving a barrage of phone calls and e-mails from clubs, fans and sponsors, most expressing concern about the result which, while not affecting the league’s outcome, affects the individual awards,” Harford said. The TTFF will take a close look at the match reports during today’s meeting as their portfolio includes being the final arbitrators in all matters relative to the League. One person who is hopeful that the result stays is Carl Joseph, manager of the WASA club.“The result have to stand,” Joseph stressed yesterday. “Harvard won a match against Moruga 16-0 and Joe Public (the 2004 champs) won 12-0 against Carib while Crab won 13-0 against Moruga. So I don’t understand what’s going on.” Joseph affirmed that WASA fielded a full-strength team at the match, but was unsure whether Crab Connection used a makeshift team or their First XI.
