‘Compre’, ‘Green Machine’ extend lead

MUCURAPO and St Augustine each extended their lead in the North and East Zone respectively, as matches in the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) continued yesterday. Mucurapo widened the gap between themselves and defending champs St Anthony’s to four points after they thrashed QRC 5-2 at Fatima Ground. Atullah Guerra, Cyranno Glen, Khaleem Hyland, Richard Roy and Keshawn Hunte scored a goal each for Mucurapo while Yohansey Williams and Thorne Holder, a penalty, replied for the Royalians. The ‘Tigers’ of St Anthony’s were held to a 1-1 draw by Malick at St Anthony’s Ground, Westmoorings, with Keron Sutton scoring for the hosts while Kevon Ross responded for Malick.

Kyle McIvor netted a pair while Jack Redon added another as St Mary’s edged Morvant/Laventille 3-2 at CIC Ground, St Clair, while Tranquillity got their first point of the season when they held Fatima 2-2 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. Shastri Spencer and Shane Calderon were on target for the “Green Machine” St Augustine as they rallied from a goal down to defeat zonal champions “Dial Dynamos” of Arima 2-1 at home. Striker Dwight Chrichlow scored a hat-trick to guide the “Blue Thunder” El Dorado to a 5-0 crushing of Valencia, with Jarell Diaz and Keston Henry getting one each. Carlyle Mitchell got the winner for Hillview as they pipped San Juan 1-0 at the Marvin Lee Stadium while St George’s squeezed past Barataria 1-0 through a Yannick Pilgrim strike.
