St Augustine, ‘Pres’, Mucurapo stay ahead
“Green Machine” St Augustine, Presentation Chaguanas and Mucurapo continue to lead their respective zones after they all registered victories in the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) yesterday. In the East Zone, the Green Machine inflicted a 5-0 licking on Hillview in a top-of-the-table matchup at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna. Two Trinidad and Tobago youth team midfielders — Devon Maxwell (Under-20) and Shastri Spencer (Under-17) found the back of the net, as well as Matthew Ramirez, Lorenzo King and Aaron Peters. San Juan jumped to second spot after a comfortable 4-2 whipping of the “Diamond Cutters” Valencia at Bourg Mulatresse. Elijah Manner struck twice for the hosts, with further contributions from Michael Brown and Anthony Guppy, while De Leon Navarro and Nicholas Dandrade netted for Valencia.
A lone item from Larnel St Hillaire was enough for the “Blue Thunder” El Dorado to defeat St George’s 1-0 at El Dorado while Michael Hospedales scored for the “Dial Dynamos” Arima as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Barataria at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima. Presentation continued their winning ways in the Central Zone with a 1-0 victory against Carapichaima in a rescheduled fixture at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva. Reon Pegus netted a 13th minute penalty for Presentation, as they have won all six of their matches this season. Mucurapo remained atop the North Zone after a narrow 2-1 triumph against Morvant/Laventille at the Fatima Ground while Malick defeated St Mary’s by a similar scoreline at the CIC Ground, St Clair.
Reigning champs, “Tigers” St Anthony’s got a pair from Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 forward Lester Peltier, and one apiece from national Under-20 midfielder Kevon Neaves and Troy Thompson, as they brushed aside Tranquillity 4-1 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. And Fatima earned a slim 1-0 win against the struggling QRC at the QRC Ground courtesy of a strike from Stephan St Louis. Two matches are on schedule today in the sister isle Tobago, with defending champs Signal Hill hosting Roxborough while leaders Scarborough guaranteed a big win at Shaw Park against Elizabeth’s, who have conceded a whopping 64 goals from just three matches.
