Two families held, one for ‘coke,’ other for a gun
A Point Fortin family of four, held by police for possession of cocaine, was among 63 persons held in a police exercise in South-Western Division yesterday. Reports indicate that a husband and wife and their two sons, whose ages range from 55 to 28 years — were held at their home at Cap-de-Ville when police officers of the Point Fortin CID executed a search warrant at the house. The four relatives are expected to appear in the Point Fortin Magistrate’s Court on Monday. During the same exercise, around 6.45 pm the police team swooped down on Soomai Trace where they held a 48-year-old man and his 19-year-old son for alleged possession of a revolver with three rounds of ammunition, and eight grammes of cocaine.
Police said the exercise also saw the arrest of a 41-year-old man of Santa Flora, who was allegedly caught conducting a cocaine transaction. He was expected to be charged with trafficking in cocaine. The other persons detained during the exercise which occurred between 1 am and 9 am, police said, were suspects in robberies and other offences. The exercise was co-ordinated by Senior Superintendent Nimrod, and headed by Sgt Michael Wells, and included PCs Gookool, Khan, Sookraj, Corrie, and WPC Paul.
