‘Tempo’ beats for BLB classic

Royal Oak Derby winner Mucho Tempo is among a wealth of talent which will be on show on the Betting Levy Board-sponsored card at Santa Rosa Park, Arima on Saturday. The Harriram Gobin inmate won the Union Park Turf Club Easter Guineas earlier this year to secure two legs of the triple crown. He will attempt to show his dominance over his West Indian three-year-old peers in the John Derek Cozier Memorial Turf Classic, the feature event on the ten-race programme. The event over 1800 metres will either show Mucho Tempo’s versatility or expose his all round credentials, as it will be his first try on the grass. The staying contest has also attracted a number of runners which participated in this year’s Derby.

Also attracted to the event is a Jamaican invader which arrived with derby participants Latonia and Seattle Sue, but did not participate in the blue ribbon race. Two other spotlight events are framed on the card which has a BLB sponsorship of $307,000. The juveniles will be the first to show off their wares in the Betting Levy Board Juvenile Sprint. Luann’s Passion and Arts And Lovers, which shared the four events contested among babes this season are down to lock horns again in the 1300 metres event. Jamaican runners Latonia and Seattle Sue having sidestepped the Turf Classic, will test the speed among a separate group of three-year-olds in the Betting Levy Board Sprint Classic over 1300 metres.
