Local amateurs slip in world tournament

THE TRINIDAD and Tobago threesome of Carlos “Sexy” Baynes, Simon Merry and Dion Gonsalves slipped one spot to 43rd after three rounds at the World Amateur Team Golf Championships at Rio Mar Country Club, Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. Baynes was Trinidad and Tobago’s best performer on the greens with a one-over-par 73 while Merry shot a six-over 78 and Gonsalves an eight-over 240. TT have a tally of 449, the same as Turkey, Bolivia and Belgium entering today’s final day of action. Sixty-six countries are vying for the Eisenhower Trophy and, according to the tournament rules, the top two scores per nation will be used on a day-to-day basis.
