Senior cop denies end of E-999 Unit
NORTHERN Division Senior Superintendent Farouk Ghany has denied reports of a plan to dismantle the Division’s E-999 Unit because of the fatal shooting of two pitbull dogs two weeks ago. Ghany said, “Not only is that statement preposterous, it is stupid and totally irresponsible. Besides not being authorised to dismantle the section, it is too important a unit in this division to destroy. “It is the heartbeat of the police response to any crime. It is the section that is there first.”
The E-999 officers’ claims surfaced following their response to a report two weeks ago at La Florisante Housing Development in D’Abadie, where they were confronted by two loose pitbulls The officers shot the dogs dead. The irate owner claimed he was closely associated with certain senior police officers and would have either the officers transferred, or the unit dismantled for killing his dogs.
