Man critical after South crash
A 23-YEAR-OLD man was in critical condition at hospital yesterday, where doctors had been attempting to save his arm after the truck in which he was a passenger overturned near the Tarouba Flyover. Police expressed fears yesterday that Ashraph Khan, of San Juan, may lose his left arm as it was almost severed in the accident. Khan, an employee of West Indian Traders Ltd, also sustained head and internal injuries. According to a police report, a car driven by Vishnu Ghuran of Penal was proceeding south on the Solomon Hochoy Highway near Tarouba.
On reaching the flyover at around 7 am, a car swerved in front of him. Ghuran told police he pulled away to avoid hitting the car and lost control of the vehicle. It caused him to collide with the truck, the report stated. The report stated the impact caused the truck driver, Satram Thurton, 28, to swerve, causing him to slam into the median. The truck, which was loaded with chocolates, overturned on impact. Cpl Mohammed of the Mon Repos Police Station is investigating.
