National captain Eve to coach Jabloteh

Trinidad and Tobago football team captain Angus Eve has been given the dual role of player/coach of San Juan Jabloteh for the remainder of the year. Eve began his new role on Sunday when the team scored a 4-0 win over Starworld Strikers in a crucial match of the TT Professional Football League. He takes over from Stephen Rutter, who leaves either later this month or early in December to return to his native Britain. “Rutter indicated to us that he wanted to go back home because things weren’t working out as planned with his wife and two young children being away in England,” remarked Jerry Hospedales, chairman of Jabloteh.

Eve, who is nursing a knee injury, coached the team in last night’s match against Tivoli Gardens of Jamaica in the CONCACAF Champions Cup and against arch rivals W-Connection on Sunday in a decider for second place in the TT Pro League and a place in next year’s CONCACAF Champions Cup. Since Rutter took over from Jamaica-born Ricky Hill at the beginning of the season, Jabloteh lost their stranglehold on the Pro League crown (to North-East Stars) and also lost the Pro Bowl and FCB Cup knockout trophies.
