Super League blank Pro League play-offs
THE PROPOSED playoffs for promotion to the T&T Pro League for the 2005 competitions will not be contested as planned. The last two teams in the Pro League — South West Drillers and Tobago United, and the top four clubs in the Super League — Joe Public, L Sporto Crab Connection, Police and Superstar Rangers, were expected to compete for two spots in the 2005 Pro League. But a press release from the Pro League yesterday stated that the Super League clubs declined the invitation to take part in the six-team contest. “
The League respects the decision of the teams,” the release noted, “but is nonetheless understandably disappointed, given its commitment to the process.” Former Strike Squad midfielder Dexter Skeene, who holds the post of Chief Executive Officer of the Pro League, remarked: “the two Pro League teams were prepared for the play-offs and eagerly anticipating the challenge ahead.” “However, in the present circumstances, we look forward to the play-offs taking place in 2005,” he countered. “The 2004 season has been positive and encouraging to date and we look forward to an even brighter 2005,” Skeene ended.
