REPORTERS TO TESTIFY

Several journalists will appear before the Privileges Committee when it meets tomorrow to continue its investigation into the tearoom brawl. Journalists who have been requested to appear before the Committee include Newsday’s crime reporter Nalinee Seelal and political reporters Sean Douglas and Ria Taitt; Express reporter Prior Beharry and Guardian’s Corey Connelly. The Privileges Committee is investigating allegations arising out of an altercation which occurred in the Members’ Lounge between PNM MP Dr Keith Rowley and UNC MP Chandresh Sharma.

So far Rowley, Sharma, Stanford Callendar and Roodal Moonilal, who were all present when the altercation took place, have appeared before the committee. Newsday was not able to ascertain whether the only other MP who was present, Kelvin Ramnath, has appeared before the Committee. The Privileges Committee was mandated to conduct a “full investigation and report” after both Rowley and Sharma filed complaints against each other alleging a breach of Privilege. The committee will meet from 4.30 pm.
