Bamboo Grove Primary closed for repairs

AN early morning protest by parents and teachers of the Bamboo Grove Presbyterian Primary School yesterday, has forced the Presbyterian Primary School Board to speed up the process to have repairs undertaken immediately at the school. As a result the school will be closed from today. Classes are expected to resume on Tuesday. The protest yesterday, outside the school at Bamboo Settlement No 1, was to highlight conditions at the school. Police had to be called out to keep the peace as the principal was debarred from entering the school.

When Newsday contacted the Presbyterian Primary School Board, a spokesperson admitted bats had invaded the school’s roof and it had become a problem. He said the machinery was in place to deal with the matter, but the teachers and parents did not understand the process. He admitted that the protest did in fact speed up the process, as the Ministry of Education had given permission for the Board to close the school to undertake repairs. The spokesperson who said to attribute the comments to Secretary General, Roy Nathai, said Saran Sampath was awarded the contract to repair the ceiling. He said the cost is estimated at $50,000.
