Remanded in custody for assault on father and cops

His attorney, Annalee Girwar, asked Senior Magistrate Nanette Forde-John, to commit the 28-yearold man from Pond Street, La Romaine, to the St Ann Hospital.

He was charged with common assault on his father, Quintin Rampersad.

The charge stemmed from an alleged incident on July 28, at the family’s home in which Quintin was attacked with a shovel. When police officers arrived on the scene, they also were attacked with the shovel.

Rampersad (Peter) was also informed by Forde-John, that he committed a common assault on Ag Cpl Preveen Rajkumar and PC Mendoza of the San Fernando CID. Another charge that he committed malicious damage to a motor vehicle was also read to him.

Girwar told the magistrate that it was her view that the accused was not someone from whom she was able to take instructions due to his mental state.

Rampersad’s left hand was bandaged due to the gun shot wounds he sustained.

Ag Sergeant Roger Nanan laid the charge.

Forde-John committed Rampersad to the St Anns Hospital for evaluation and report on his mental condition.

He is expected to reappear on August 22.
