Stop setting double standards
THE EDITOR: Please allow me to express my opinion on the objection of non-Christian religions to the participation by their schools in a Christmas singing competition. I totally appreciate the fact that they are free to refuse participation in anything that goes against their sensibilities. I also feel that they should not be forced, via singing a song, to use words that are repulsive to them. I however feel that their parents from whom they have acquired those sensibilities and through their religious upbringing should not be setting double standards to their precious charges by selling products that promote the Christian religion. It is plain that the sale of all things Christian was just their way of helping out those who wished to purchase such items but had no where else to turn.
I wish to suggest a new approach to all persons in need of purchasing all such items from Christmas cards to cloth for confirmation dresses. Every possible item related to the Christian religion, please desist from purchasing them at an establishment that you discern is owned by a non-Christian. It may take investigation, but it will be worth it, after all no one should want to deliberately upset another on religious grounds. It is only fair that you do not burden them with having to associate with those items, which totally disturb their religious sensibilities. Thank you for publishing this urgent message to all.
