Curepe target BFL in Courts T20 semis

The match, scheduled to start at 3pm, was originally scheduled for last weekend but was postponed because inclement weather had rendered the venue unsatisfactory for play.

The first semi-final featuring Biche Sports and Unity was staged on Thursday.

Despite the absence of several of their key players, Brent Guiseppi of BFL is confident that Brasso, Caparo team can produce a match-winning performance and justify their tag as pre-tournament favourites.

Missing on the BFL roster today will be Guyanese imports Raj Nanan, a left-arm spinner, and batting all-rounder Winston Forrester who have left the team to take up professional contracts in Canada.

They will also be without talented Tobagonians, Anthony and Antonio Providence who have returned home.

“We still have a strong team and the absence of the established players has opened up an opportunity for the others on the fringe of selection to step up to the plate,” he said in anticipation of today’s clash.

Guiseppi credited better management of the team and the positive influence of captain Suruj Ragoonath as the reason for BFL’s strong 2016 Central Zone campaign when they swept the three major competition titles, and carved an easy passage into the last four of the Courts Inter-Club T20.

But Curepe could prove to be BFL’s biggest test of the season, as they are keen to atone for their loss in last year’s final against Orange Field, which left a bitter taste in their mouths.

Off-spinner and secretary of the Curepe Sports Club Deoraj Narine said they are confident that the East Zone stalwarts can complete the job this year, having had the experience of coming agonisingly close to landing the big prize.

He said the composition of the team has basically remained the same, but is strengthened by the addition of all-rounder player/ coach Neil Williams and batsman Marlon Bharath who both have experience playing Premiership level cricket with Moosai Sports and Alescon Comets respectively.

Narine said that opening batsman David Adams has the distinction of scoring a century in the tournament so far and has been well-supported by his captain Joshua Seales, while fast bowler Mark Gordon and left-arm spinner Rishi Rampersad have posed serious problems for their opponents’ batting
