Hundreds turn out to TTFA grassroots programme Participants

Led by Technical Director Muhammad Isa and his cadre of local TTFA certified coaches, the programme has seen just over 300 children from schools in Roxborough and Canaan, as well as the Morvant/ Laventille district and the Eastern Football Association (EFA) take part in separate threehour clinics at different venues.

On Wednesday, the programme continued at the Eddie Hart Ground, Tacarigua where 50 children participated in the exercise.

Isa described the programme so far as exciting and eye-opening for the youngsters.

“So far we have covered just over 300 kids between the ages of six to 16 years, both girls and boys from different walks of life, different backgrounds and all with a desire to enjoy and learn more about the game,” Isa said.

Several other venues are targeted for the eight-week programme includes Tabaquite, Barrackpore and the Cushe Recreation Ground.

“What we are aiming to do is spread the game and reach out to kids in areas that may not usually be exposed to this kind of opportunity.

In collaboration with our partner, the Scotiabank Foundation, we are quite pleased to see the response so far and we expect there to be continued interest for the remainder of the campaign. “We are observing and evaluating every sessions and the top performers will also have the opportunity to try out or train with some of our national youth teams in the future.

Overall we are on the right path with regards to getting the benefits out of a programme such as this,” Isa added.
