Music mix at the Bowl
Jangbahadoor will join with ace musician Shivanand Maharaj, singers Neval Chaital, Indar Kanhai, Satnarine Ragoo and Rohan Boodoo for an annual concert at Naparima Bowl, San Fernando, today at 6 pm. Produced by the Shiv Sangeet School of Music, this concert will also feature flautist Narindra Maharaj.
Jangbahadoor has been doing satsangs here, the UK and the USA.
She received six years of professional training in India under the tutorage of renowned guru Gandharva Mahavidyalaya.
While in India she shared the stage with the best religious singers.
“I always loved poetry and music. I always love to read about religious characters and also to sing about these characters,” she said.
“There is no better way to pray than to sing songs to God,be it a bhajan, qaseeda or hymn.” She has chosen a collection of beautiful film, folk and religious songs for the concert.
Maharaj (S) is an award-winning musician who has also performed abroad. He holds a degree in music and received the Tagore Prize for his thesis on “The Development of Indian Classical Music In Trinidad and Tobago in the 20th century.” He also attained seventh grade in Indian music at the Bharatya Vidya Sansthaan Institute of Music.
He has mastered five instruments– the harmonium, violin, accordion, flute, and dholak– and sings bhajans and ghazals with style and ease.
However, his real love is the violin.
Once he heard Kunakunde of India play the violin on the Indian Cultural Magazine show and he was so inspired that he demanded a violin as his Christmas gift. It was the start of good things to come for Maharaj.
In 2001 he released his first CD, Bhajan Amritam, performed with India’s Anup Jalota, Hari Om Sharan, Swami Ganapati, Sant Keshvadas, and Professor Adesh.
