How to: get the Glow
I’d say to roll with the punches and learn to work with what you have. If you have ever been afraid of using highlight because you have oilier skin, today I’ll be teaching you to make the most of your gorgeous glow without looking greasy. We’ll also talk about some great products for drier skin types, that won’t accentuate any rough patches! There are so many wonderful highlight products on the market nowadays, ranging from creams, gels, liquids and powders, to hydrating or mattifying setting sprays, to seal in your makeup and take away the powdered, cakey look. You are bound to find a glowenhancing product that agrees with your skin type.
Aside from the obvious healthy diet, exercise and skincare routine, your glow can be enhanced by many different makeup products. If you have normal to dry skin, try exfoliating your skin with a facial scrub to slough off any rough, dry patches and then apply good moisturizer, followed by a luminous, hydrating face primer.
Something like Becca’s Backlight Priming Filter, which doesn’t only blur imperfections and extend the wear of your makeup, but also imparts a beautiful glow on the skin. You can also mix a liquid highlight such as Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops into your liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer for added luminosity. You definitely want to avoid using powder products if your skin is dry, as that will dull your glow.
If your skin is oilier, you should consider using mattifying primer such as Becca’s Ever Matte Poreless Priming Perfector. It controls excess oil while reducing the appearance of pores. Additionally, it can be used before you apply your makeup or after, for touch-ups throughout the day. Using this instead of powder can create a much more natural appearance. When you apply powder to oily skin, it can cake up quite easily, so the innovative, gel formula absorbs excess oil from targeted areas, without adding an extra layer of makeup.
A luminous blush such as Too Faced Cosmetics Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush, can add a po of colour paired with a beautiful glow. Opt for peachy, bronze shades such as Peach Beach, as this will create a more natural, sun-kissed luminosity.
Bronzer can give the skin a more radiant, tanned appearance. Have you ever noticed that having a light tan makes you look healthier and slimmer? Because the sun naturally hits higher points on your face, these areas will be more prone to tanning, which enhances contours, thus, giving you a more chiselled appearance. To recreate this look without compromising your skin’s safety, sweep a bronzer over your temples, across your nose, under your cheekbones, on your jaw and lightly on your chin using a fluffy brush. I really enjoy Too Faced Cosmetics Sun Bunny Bronzer for a luminous, bronze glow. If you have a deeper skin tone, sweep Sun Bunny onto the high points of your face as a gorgeous, warm highlight.
The most traditional version of highlight is it’s pressed powder form. For great variety of colour, I really love the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kits. Use a fluffy fan brush or a small, tapered brush such as the Real Techniques Setting brush to sweep your favourite shade of highlight to high points of the face: on the cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose, on the brow bones, the cupid’s bow and a little to the inner corners of your eyes to make them pop! Opting for a glowing look can really perk up a lacklustre complexion.
If you’ve ever wondered why some celebrities look so fabulous on the red carpet, it could be some clever makeup tricks from their glam squad. If you’ve never tried it before, you could be in for a real treat.
