Man killed on Beetham Highway

According to reports, at about 6 pm, Pedro Frank was attempting to cross the Beetham Highway near the entrance of the Beetham landfill.

However, as he reached the east bound lane of the highway he was struck by a vechicle. Frank was thrown several feet into the air and landed on the roadway. He died on the scene. The driver of the vehicle which struck him pulled to the side and rendered assistance and police and emergency services were contacted. Officers of the North Eastern Division responded to the call, and the area was cordoned off.

Traffic was diverted to the Eastern Main Road, while the scene was being processed.

A District Medical Officer pronounced the man dead and ordered his body removed to the Forensic Science Centre for safekeeping, until the body is identified.
