Going DirecTV? Think twice!

THE EDITOR: There are constant complaints in the letter columns from customers of the cable company. They do, however, have the option of DirecTV (Galaxy). Please allow me to give a rundown. If one’s connection breaks down there is a standard waiting period of five days for a technician, and there is no rebate for the days of disuse. More than half the channels are in Spanish, and the few in all other languages have Spanish sub-titles. English sub-titles are never given, which is particularly annoying when an original English version has been dubbed. There are quite a few channels that cannot be accessed unless one orders a programme and pays extra for it.

The translations and spellings of the programme descriptions are very sloppy. The same interminable re-runs are on different channels during the same primetime period. The menu is seldom without a particular spaghetti western. Most of all, never plan your evening around a promised programme on the menu, without risking disappointment without acknowledgement or apology. So there you have the ‘‘notsogood, the bad, and the ugly that is DirectTV.’’ Think hard before jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.
