Mc Farlane excited over Carnival re-entry
Speaking to Newsday on Sunday following a fund raising event hosted by businesswoman and philanthropist Hannah Janoura who distributed a 110 wheelchairs to differently- abled persons at 42-46 Sackville Street, Port-of-Spain, Mc Farlane said although he will not be competing, he has decided to bring on board TT’s top designers for 2017 .
“The band is quite a different band in the sense that it is not just Mc Farlane’s creation, but I have brought on board many of the top fashion designers of Trinidad and Tobago like Claudia Pegus and Heather Jones, Peter Elias, Diane Hunt, Adrian Foster, a designer from Tobago and many of them have already submitted fantastic designs.” He said, “There is a lot of fabric in the work, also some sexy appeal designs for young people but constructed in a very tasteful way. Certainly there is no beads and no feathers, it is very different, we have the Laventille Rhythm section, steel pan and a lot of music trucks,” he explained .
McFarlane said he is not competing because he holds the title for seven consecutive years as the National Carnival Band winner, but is coming back to give an offering to the people of Trinidad and Tobago .
“If my masqueraders love to cross the savannah stage we will once we are allowed to. One judging point that we will be crossing is behind the bridge because that is where Carnival started.” He further added, “ I am excited about it and the band is going to be brown cotton, whites and taupe, colour palette. We are going to have lunch on both days around the fountain in Woodford Square and we are not going to follow any particular band route but play mas as it used to be before in the streets in the good old days.” Noting the launch will take place at the end of September, Mc Farlane said further information of the time and place will be advertised via a media release .
Mc Farlane’s last Carnival presentation was in 2013 .
