Glow Run 5K enjoys more success

Something fun and that included all age groups. It is more a fun run and not necessarily a race,” said event co-ordinator Nicolette Leacock, also the founder of the Movement Bago clothing line.

The Glow Run 5K got off the ground in 2015 and attracted over 500 participants. Just one year later and the run is becoming one of the most talked about long distance events on the island, said a media release. This year, Leacock and her organisers were forced to close off registration at just over 800 participants “We want it to be a manageable, controlled crowd and gradually grow the event,” said Leacock, 23, daughter of Tambrin 92.7 owners George and Carol Leacock and recent University of Miami graduate specialising in Business Management and Marketing.

In addition to the glowing accessories and glow powder provided by Leacock and her team, participants also had the privilege of stopping at the blink/bmobile booth for bandanas, water, cups and bags.

The run got started at Canoe Bay and concluded at Basso’s Bar, Pigeon Point Heritage Park with an after party, featuring DJs and announcers from Tambrin 92.7FM. The blink /bmobile’s photo booth was also on site to ensure that participants made memories of their Glow Run experience, taking free photos of themselves, friends and family, the release said.

“Glow Run is a novel event that has attracted a lot of attention in Tobago.

The organisers have achieved their objective of executing a fun event where people of varying ages can participate and we see that today. Friends, families, children, fitness group. Glow Run is promoting fun, love and togetherness,” said Onica Blackman, enterprise marketing and communications manager, TSTT , Tobago Operations.

“We are proud and excited to be part of Glow Run 5K 2016.

It is in keeping with our commitment to our customers and Tobago by extension, where we promote holistic development,” Blackman said. Glow Run 5K is a charity challenge, where the winning teams donate their prize money to a charity of their choice.

According to Leacock, this year she was able to use monies from her “paint, powder and glow” Carnival band prize money, to double the charity challenge prize and also have prizes for second and third places.

The Williams’ Group won The Glow Run 5K 2016 Charity Challenge trophy and $5,000 first prize.

Xtreme Fitness was second and won $3,000 and Dos Fit Studio placed third place to win $2,000.

Elated to cop the first place as a first time group entry, a proud Chavis Williams indicated that the group would be donating the cash to the St Vincent de Paul Home. The charity collects items of clothing for the needy and also provides a home for the aged in Mason Hall, Tobago
