Sando stops wrecking...for now

And San Fernando Mayor Kazim Hosein said he is expecting motorists to exercise discriminate parking whenever they visit the southern city.

The temporary suspension of the wrecking service was made public at Tuesday’s monthly statutory meeting at San Fernando City Hall.

The motion was moved by councillor Arnold Soogrim and goes into effect from today. Hosein told the council: “We have to have a meeting with traffic management to ensure proper signage is done throughout the city and we will see how it works.” In his view, he said, the wrecking service has failed the people of San Fernando as he gets numerous complaints on a daily basis. He hopes to meet the new TTPS executive in San Fernando to begin discussions.

He identified the newly built public car park at Lady Hailes Avenue, San Fernando with parking space for over 200 vehicles which he said will be free to the public and he urged motorists to make full use of it. A shuttle service will be provided to move persons from the car park to the main shopping area.

Alderman Kevin Ratiram said he hoped measures will be put in place for the re-implementation of the wrecking service.
