Luscious Lashes

But I digress. Today we will be talking about ways that we can care for, and enhance our natural lashes, and a few options we can explore if we need a little extra help in that department.

Natural Eyelashes

You can of course, just let them be. Keep them clean, maybe brush them with a clean mascara wand from time to time. If you need a little extra conditioning, or feel like your lashes have gotten a little brittle or thin from overuse of eye products, then you can apply a mixture of castor oil, vitamin E oil and aloe vera gel to your lashes every night. This should condition them and promote growth.

If natural growth remedies haven’t been working for you, you can explore products such as RevitaLash, which enhances your natural lashes, and protects them against breakage. It’s quite an investment though, but something to consider if you really want to make the most of your natural eyelashes.

As a quick enhancement, you can simply curl your lashes and coat them with black mascara. Start at the root of the lash, and gently move the wand side to side as you move up the lash. Pull up and away from the lash, so that the tips aren’t too heavily coated in product, as this can look quite clumpy.

False Eyelashes

If your natural lashes are short, don’t seem to grow, and don’t curl easily, you can do two things. You can either embrace them and love yourself anyway, or opt for a more glamorous approach. For special occasions, a pair of false eyelashes can be used to temporarily boost the fullness and length of your lashes. I say temporarily, because you remove them at the end of the day. These can, however, be quite uncomfortable if you aren’t accustomed to them, so I recommend wearing them prior to your event to ensure you’ll know what to expect. If you want a more comfortable option, you can wear individual lashes, as opposed to strip lashes. The only downside is that they’re quite difficult to apply on yourself.

Eyelash Extensions

This is a semi-permanent procedure that attaches single lashes of varying lengths, one by one, to your own natural lashes, using a special glue, that should not irritate your eyes. As with all things, allergic reactions are possible so talk to your lash specialist about any concerns you might have. It is quite a lengthy process, and can take anywhere from one to two hours to apply a full set of lashes. Results can last anywhere from three to six weeks and can be maintained by refilling them, which is usually cheaper than applying a full set.

Since the extensions are glued on to your own natural lashes, how long they last will vary depending on your own natural growth cycle. These lashes will look the most natural, feel the most comfortable and allow you to get through your makeup routine that much faster. I think if you’re going away on a vacation, or have a lot of events around a certain time, eyelash extensions will be quite handy to have on. The only downsides are that you will need to be careful about sleeping on them as this can bend them, they require some level of maintenance, and they can be quite pricey.
