Laventille cricket team thanks MP, Angostura
Team captain Stephen Samuel noted getting sponsorship for a team from Laventille was difficult and thanked Laventille MP Fitzgerald Hinds and Angostura, which is based in the community, for their assistance.
He told Hinds they were aware that they were ambassadors of Laventille and assured him they would make Laventille proud. Samuel and some of the team’s 22 players were present at the Erica Street playground, Laventille, where Hinds announced his sponsorship of uniforms to Laventille Legions for upcoming matches at the CCN Community Cricket League T10 tournament and for the foreseeable future.
Hinds tasked the people of Laventille to come out and support them at Caldrac Cricket Grounds, California, central Trinidad, as they play today at 9 am, 1 pm and 7 pm.
Addressing the small crowd, Hinds said he had a rough few days with the court appearance of Jerome Henry, the funeral of Josiah Henry, and the murder of Ricardo Joseph of Upper Belle Eau Road, Belmont on Friday.
“But this is really good news, making the point that every time one is about to feel badly about what is going on in my community, so good thing happens to give me faith and to give me strength to keep on doing the work that obviously must be done,” he said.
“He (Samuel) gave us the commitment that they understand the sociology of this thing, they understand that they represent Laventille, they understand who we are and where we stand in the eyes of the National Community, and that they understand that it is their business to represent Laventille positively,” he continued.
Hinds said he admired the team members for understanding what was required of them, that he was proud of them, confident in their future success and promised that, as long as the team existed, he would continue to sponsor it.
