Mohammed to captain WI ‘A’

Speaking to Newsday yesterday, Mohammed expressed pride in being given the honour of leading the regional side.

“It’s a good feeling and another achievement for myself. It’s always a pleasure to play for the West Indies whether it’s West Indies ‘A’ or senior team. I’m just happy for the opportunity and looking to make the best of it,” he said.

Mohammed, despite not having a good showing with the bat in the Nagico Super50 tournament (50 runs from seven matches), captained the Red Force to backto- back titles earlier this year. He bounced back with the 10th best aggregate (287 runs) in the 2016 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) for Guyana Amazon Warriors who lost the grand final against Jamaica Tallawahs last month. His average of 47.83 was the second best for the tournament behind Barbados Tridents’ AB de Villiers (58.50) who left the CPL halfway through the competition.

“It’s going to be an important three games for myself. Hopefully I can do well and continue my good form that I had lately and address the selectors because I really want to be back on West Indies senior team. For me it (CPL) was good, I think I had a good CPL and ended up in the top 10 of the batting rankings.

It was a good build-up and gives me good confidence now that these games come around, hopefully I can capitalise on these three games and make the best use of it.

“I don’t really have any personal goals at this point in time but I’d love to score a century in one of those three games. I think if I can do that and back it up with a score or two, it would do me well for the future and for selection for the senior team.” West Indies one-day ‘A’ squad: Jason Mohammed (captain), Andre Fletcher (vice-captain), Rovman Powell, Kyle Hope, Chadwick Walton, Andre McCarthy, Assad Fudadin, Veerasammy Permaul, Jon-Russ Jaggesar, Damion Jacobs, Delorn Johnson, Ronsford Beaton, Kesrick Williams, Kyle Mayers.
