Do chicken producers care about poor people?

THE EDITOR: Please be advised that we the consumers will never again accept the disrespect and atrocities leveled at us for so many past years. This has been partly responsible for the decline of our moral and social lives that will never be the same again. We have been hurt and destroyed and left in the darkness for the rest of our lives. But with the shining star and acquisition of knowledge more and more, we can now stand up firm and cast away the evils into the fire of hell. Was it a crime for Government in the interest of fairness and the benefit of hundreds of thousands of poor consumers to stamp out monopoly and cartel control and seek measure to reduce the price of chicken? Instead, a few chicken producers have “gone wild” in an after-Budget massive expensive attack on both local and foreign governments. They have decided for “the love and care” of consumers, to force down our throats what we should eat and what we must pay. Was it done through arrogance or a lack of simple knowledge?

Do they decide to come and live under the bridge with most poor consumers or roll on the grass in high posh gardens? Then why insult the integrity and fundamental rights of poor people; the most shameful and cowardly act one can commit. The Prime Minister was right on target in his recent statement that meant that some people sit on their big fat . . .in their luxurious cars, offices and homes and make decisions not caring for the social rights of the people. If these producers do not want to reduce their high prices, then why should they object to cheaper imported chicken from which poor people will benefit? Is it really for the benefit of our Agricultural sector, or is it really for the benefit of themselves? What about our benefit? We thank you God for showing us the light.

The Government provided the importance of globalisation, trade liberalisation, Caricom Single Market and Economy, the reduction of world trade barriers, the need for innovation and technology and most importantly our thrust for the FTAA headquarters to benefit not one and not a few but all citizens of Trinidad and Tobago. The thrust towards the eradication of poverty, crime and fair distribution of wealth and equity should be the concern of all in power in our society. Everlasting monopolies and cartels are equally being eliminated and therefore to threaten our national food security is a serious offence that must never be taken lightly. So chickens, we fear not to eat from the east, eat from the west, eat from the north and eat from the south . . . local or imported, as long as we have that freedom of choice. Wake up! Get up! . . . And smell the aroma of this free world.
