Kamla drafts Cabinet Note for Rowley

In a signed letter to Rowley dated September 12, Persad- Bissessar said she made a commitment in the 2014 Budget debate in Parliament that her then People’s Partnership (PP) government gave a commitment to pay $1 million to the estate of members of the Police Service, Fire Service, Defence Force and Prison Service should they lose their lives in the line of duty. The PP failed to implemented that initiative prior to the September 7, 2015, general election.

Noting that on April 14, National Security Minister Edmund Dillon said the new People’s National Movement administration would honour that commitment, Persad-Bissessar said she was presenting Rowley with a draft Cabinet Note to treat with this issue, “as part of my commitment as Opposition Leader to assist in the fight against crime.” Persad-Bissessar told Rowley “this note only needs to be considered and passed by Cabinet to give effect to this policy decision made by my administration and repeated by your good self.”
