‘I not taking that so’

A FRIEND of murdered gang leader  Darren “Master Wong” Pompey yesterday declared that he would seek revenge for the death. “They killed my friend and they must pay. I not taking that so,” the man said in an emotional outburst during a funeral service for Pompey at the car park of the Canada Mosque, Marcano Quarry, East Dry River, Port of Spain. Pompey, 27, was asleep at his Ridge Road, San Juan home with his common-law wife, Camille Jacob, 25, around 4.30 am last Tuesday when two men dressed in black stormed into the house and shot him several times.

The bleeding man was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he died one hour later. Investigations revealed that Pompey, who was wanted for questioning in connection with several murders in the area, had recently received death threats from members of a rival gang which he once led. Sources said Pompey once headed the Beverly Hills gang but following a split he formed the Canada Scheme gang. The gangs have been in constant war with each other.

Sources said after Pompey was recently threatened by a member of the rival gang, he moved out of the area At the funeral his grieving mother, Yvonne Pompey, described him as a good boy and said she wanted his killers found and brought to justice. Another mourner said the dead man “had bad ways but he was a nice, respectful boy.” Police said they are bracing for more gang warfare in the aftermath of Pompey’s murder. They said that to date they have no leads Following a short service under Muslim rites in the car park of the Canada Mosque, Pompey was buried at the Monroe Road Cemetery in Cunupia.
