Jonathon Simon tops Patriotic Song semis
A week prior a 40-strong field had been whittled down to 25 entrants for these Semis, from which 15 entrants will advance to the September 20th Finals the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA) in San Fernando.
Simon, who had initially come second in the Preliminaries, won the Semis with “My Senses Tell Me”, earning 257 points.
Second place in the Semis went to Shervonne Rodney of Arima Central Secondary whose “You’re Mine” earned her 256 points.
Sasha-Ann Moses of the University of the West Indies (UWI) came third with “Show Your Patriotism” to earn 253 points.
The other finalists in order of descending score are: Suraj Ramdass- Singh (San Fernando East Secondary), Patrice Richardson (Holy Faith Convent, Couva), Desle Julian (St Mary’s College), Nicholas Ashby (UWI), Duanne O’Connor (St Mary’s College), Jerod Griffith (Presentation College, Chaguanas), Kerine Williams-Figaro (Costaatt), Rivaldo London (Iere High School), Adana Dardaine (Sangre Grande Educational Institute), Samuel Duntin (Hugh Wooding Law School), Caryn Nicole McCarthy (Arima Central Secondary) and Nirmala Ramdass-Singh (San Fernando West Secondary).
Held by the Ministry of Education and Patriotic Organisation of TT, the contest offers a first-place prize of $40,000, plus $10,000 to the winner’s school.
