Joe Public snare Knock Out crown
JOE PUBLIC brushed aside the challenge of Angostura 1976 FC Phoenix 6-1 to lift the 2004 National Super League Knock Out crown, and cop the $15,000 jackpot, on Wednesday night. The Phoenix lads, buoyed by a large turnout of hometown fans at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, were pegged back with a ninth minute opener by Jamaican striker Roen Nelson.
National Under-23 midfielder Devon Caseman doubled the advantage in the 23rd while Nelson netted the third for the “Eastern Lions” in the 38th. Kayode Legall trimmed the scores to 3-1 in the 41st but Jamaican Carlington Smith restored the Lions’ three-goal cushion in the 51st. Caseman found the target in the 83rd while Jason Springer completed the goal bombardment in the 85th. Phoenix earned $10,000 for the efforts in the three-week long knockout contest.
