Malabar man on gun charge

A 21-YEAR-OLD Malabar man is expected to appear before an Arima magistrate on Tuesday to answer charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was arrested on Thursday, the Divali public holiday. Reports indicate that police officers, including PCs Gangadeen, Gordon and David were on mobile patrol along Semp Avenue in Malabar at around 12.20 pm, when they observed the man standing next to a wall. He was reportedly acting suspiciously and the officers called out to him. He ran off and the police chased and caught him. The unemployed man was later charged after a 0.38 Smith and Wesson revolver and three rounds of 0.38 ammunition were allegedly found on his person. The charges were laid by PC Gangadeen. He appeared before a Justice of the Peace yesterday where bail was denied.
