Cocorite ‘coke’ accused denied bail again
THE MAN with four names was again denied bail yesterday when he appeared before a High Court judge. Earlier this month he was denied bail by a senior magistrate because he was considered a flight risk. Derek Perpignac of Bayside Towers in Cocorite and his co-accused Lawrence Blake, are charged with being in possession of 4.2 kilos of pure cocaine on October 20. The illegal drug has an estimated street value of $1.6 million. When the two appeared before Senior Magistrate Lianne Lee Kim at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court on November 3, Blake, 35, was granted bail of $100,000. Perpignac, 41, was denied bail. When his bail application came up before Justice Herbert Volney at the Port-of-Spain Assizes yesterday morning, it was again denied. Perpignac is reported to have three Trinidad and Tobago ID cards.
The first one, in the name of Anthony Mauge, was issued on March 4, 1997. The second was issued on March 16, 2002, and another some time ago. In addition, he allegedly has a driver’s permit in the name of Derek Perpignac which expires on October 3 2005, with a 17 Windsurf Drive East, Westmoorings-by-the-Sea address. He also has a TT passport issued on September 11 2002 in the name of Anthony Christopher Hills. Perpignac is also reported to have two deed polls. In the first instance he had allegedly changed his name from Derek Perpignac to Anthony Christopher Mauge in 1995. The second deed poll renounced Mauge to Anthony Christopher Hills in 2002. Perpignac is being represented by attorney Gilbert Peterson SC. Attorney Dana Seetahal is prosecuting. The accused will re-appear before Magistrate Lee Kim on November 22.
