Two homes destroyed in Malabar fire, 8 homeless
Jervon Phamphille, whose residence was damaged because of the close proximity to the two houses that were on fire first said, “We thought that it was a fight but when we came out, we realised that it was a fire. By that time I got outside, two houses were already on fire and there wasn’t much we could do.” According to Phamphille, fire officers arrived approximately thirty minutes after the initial call. While the officers were unable to save the first two houses, they were able to save Phampille’s.
The kitchen, washing room and bedroom of his house were however severely damaged.
Mother of six ,Abigail Phillip wasn’t as fortunate. Her house was completely destroyed, leaving her entire family in desperate need of a shelter. Abigail said,” They wake me up and it (house) was already on fire. We couldn’t do anything.
I am accepting all the help I can get and don’t really know what is going to happen tonight.” The two other occupants of the second house that burnt to the ground, where a father and son reside, are also seeking the assistance of the public, NGO’s and the government.
