Man sent to St Ann’s Hospital for observation
Marlon Macoon appeared before Magistrate Nanette Forde- John yesterday to answer the charge of having in his possession a hacksaw, hacksaw blade and hammer - items used for the purpose of house breaking. Macoon pleaded guilty to the charge laid by police constable Sheldon Cooper of the Rapid Response Unit, Southern Division.
Police court prosecutor, Cleyon Sedan, told the court that at about 11.50 p.m. on Saturday, police officers including Cooper were on mobile patrol along the Manahambre Road, near St Clements, when they observed Macoon at the roadside near a business place.
The court heard that on seeing the police vehicle, he began to run in the opposite direction.
Police officers, Sedan said, gave chase and arrested him. Macoon was searched and the items found. When questioned by police officers, he replied, “Officer give men a chance. I just came out of prison. Macoon was detained and charged. The house breaking implements were produced in court. Yesterday, when asked by Forde-John why he had the items in his possession, Macoon did not respond. He was questioned repeatedly but still did not give a reason. The magistrate ordered that he be sent for observation at the St Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital before sentencing. The case was adjourned to October 10.
