The celebration of perfection
THE EDITOR: Divali is the celebration of perfection, the perfection of the personality of Lord Rama, also called Ramachandra. He is God Supreme. One and indivisibly perfect in discipline, duty, knowledge and love unconditional, unselfish, universal love. Although He is God Supreme, He condescended to appear on earth as a human being, to demonstrate by example the ideal of humanity, within the constraints of corporeal existence, in the material world.
He is the ideal God, father, son, brother friend, husband and king. His reign is called Rama Raja, the epitome of good government, honest, selfless, disciplined, dedicated to the welfare of his subjects, the king, his father, His family and friends, with excellence, quality in the execution of His duty. For those who are his devotees, He is the most compassionate, loving God, willing to forgive those who repent and submit to His protection, and willing to set aside their selfishness, dishonesty, scheming, hate, lust, anger and greed and false pride, the qualities of the ungodly. He is the heart of the saints and for them He has incarnated to protect and provide security, liberty and peace, and re-establish the true principles of law and religion. For the ungodly, called demons, who are instructed with and abused the power given to them, by their atro-cities and service, He is the swift destroyer of their wickedness, and for these devils He is death incarnate, the personality of Sitadevi, His consort, is the embodiment of the ideals of womanhood, love, duty discipline, service, modesty and godliness.
The lights of Divali represent His glorious light on the universe of truth, justice, wisdom, compassion, sacrifice, charity, discipline, duty and perfection of unconditional love, unselfish universal love. The world has become a global village and whatever is good, noble and excellent is any religion, philosophy, location or literature, has and must become the heritage of all mankind. With the Internet and global communications, we can access with facility the great ideas of nobility and greatness in the history of mankind. Let the good people of Trinidad and Tobago set aside our prejudices, and learn to seek truth in any religion for God is one, though enlightened sages speak of Him differently in different climes and different ages. This is the foundation of unity of mankind, spiritual and social co-operation. In celebrating Divali, Rama and Sita and their perfections, we celebrate personalities like Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, who aspired to the highest religion, unconditional, unselfish, universal love, duty and discipline.
